The Master of Science program in Sustainable Agriculture and Horticulture provides opportunities for students to prepare for advanced careers related to sustainable agriculture in the current global economy and climate. The outcomes for this degree program are as follows. The student will demonstrate learning by having the opportunity to complete the following:
- Categorized types of plants used in horticulture.
- Describe the preparation needed to engage in sustainable agriculture.
- Explain why sustainability is important.
- Explain how sustainability impacts local and regional society.
- Identify major methods of growing plants in horticulture and agriculture.
- Identify three local diseases that impact agriculture and horticulture.
- Compare and contrast pest management techniques.
- Describe three general safety issues when engaged in growing plants.
- Describe how to set-up and maintain a sustainable aquaponics/hydroponics system.
- Use empirical data for the purpose of developing a thesis-driven paper which demonstrates critical and creative thinking based on relevant evidence and analytical reasoning.
